The 10 min Spill

This assignment is designed to allow thought to flow freely without the common barriers of thinking too much.

You will need:
-pen/pencil
-paper
-a friend with a watch, or a timer with an alarm

Before you start:
-think of a character who is the polar opposite of yourself
-give that character a name
-write that name at the top of the page
-think of an incident (ie. a bike was stolen)
-write the incident beneath the name

Give yourself about 3 - 5 minutes to get to know your character. DON'T think much about the storyline, its the character you're trying to get to know.

Either set your alarm, or have a friend time you for exactly 10 mins.
As soon as that 10 mins begins, you must start writing. Write for the full 10 mins, even if you seem to run out of things to say. Don't worry about spelling, grammar, or even if what you've written makes any sense. As soon as the 10 mins are up, stop.
If you have a sentence to finish, that's ok, but don't go any further than that.

Let me know how it goes, I love seeing what comes out of these exercises! :) Sometimes some really odd, sometimes scary, things can come out of doing this sort of thing. That's ok. If you want, I can just take a look at it and give you some personal feedback/advice/input. I will never judge you by what you've written.

If you feel like sharing, send a note to ~theinklings with the words 10 Min Spill in the subject line. Make sure you include a link to your piece and I'll post it up with the newsletter.

Have fun!

Interesting. This little club o' yours sounds promising. I think if I can remember to do this I'll give it a whiz.
